What Is Silicone Vinyl

When working in commercial applications we are often asked what is the difference between vinyl polyurethane and a silicone based product and what do we recommend.

What is silicone vinyl.

I had someone ask me what the difference was between dolls so i thought i would show a very quick example of a few different ones. Platinum 20 ecoflex is a common grade for lifelike dolls. So the vinyl is softer and will squish a little. There is a common misconception that only vinyl or only silicone can be used for these babies.

I am not really sure about the difference. Vinyl is what most doll kits are made of. Because silicone oil is super slippery and minimally reactive it can lubricate most anything. Silicone is a floppy material the degree of this attribute is determined by the class of silicone the baby is poured in as some silicones are softer and more wiggly.

Both these substances are used commonly and in some cases their mixture will be used for doll creation. As with all things silicone has its dark side. Flextouch vinyl is also much more durable against rips and tears than silicone and doesn t require powdering because it is still soft to the touch like gentletouch vinyl. Judging by dollfan and other doll sites some love the silicone and some like the silicone vinyl.

I like and own 4 silicone vinyl and love them. When properly installed silicone foam firestops can be fabricated for building code compliance. It works especially well on porous items such as plastic parts but is a good lubricant on locks hinges and guns. Advantages include flexibility and high dielectric strength.
